LATE SENATOR LONG

150,000 ATTEND THE FUNERAL.

POLITICAL FIGHT PREPARING

;United Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, September 12.

Senator Huey Long was buried in the grounds of the magnificent State Capitol at Baton Rouge (Louisiana), which he built and often said! would be a monument to himself.

Throughout last night and to-day thousands of mourners filed past the bier in the memorial hall of the Capitol, with its 7000 square feet of floor space literally carpeted with flowers. At least 150,000 people, chiefly farmers and country folk, arrived by trains and motor-oars to see the funeral. The Rev. Gerald L. Smith (leader of the “Share-the-Wealth” Societies), delivered a sermon, which was divided between praise for the fallen leader and a thinly-veiled challenge to his political enemies to attempt to overthrow the political machine which Senator Long left.

The funeral was hardly over before friends and foes of the dead Senator started preparations for a political fight.
