The weather was fine for the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting, the second day of which will be held next Saturday. The going was good for this time of the year. There was a good attendance. Results:— ROYAL OAK HANDICAP, of 115 sovs. Unhoppled trotters. 3min 42sec class. One mile and a half. 1— Great Admiral, 24yds (Paul) 1 3—Mountain Sun, 36yd (Fleming) ... 2 2 Mute, 48yds (August) 3 Also started Autumn Lou. Won by three lengths, third horse six lengths away. Times 3min 34, 3min 35sec, 3min 38 l-ssec. MOUNT EDEN HANDICAP, of 100 sovs. 3min ssec class. One mile and a quarter. 11 (11)— King’s Guide, scr (Wood) 1 g (3) —Parochial, scr (Mitchell) 2 5 1(4) —Aerial Bell, scr (Lee) 3 Scratched: Gloster, Golden Bramble. Won by two lengths, two and a half lengths between second and third. Time 2min 54 3-ssec, 2min 55sec, 2min 56sec. AUGUST HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. 4min 31sec class. SNOW FALLS IN CHRISTCHURCH
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. When the horses were on the track preparatory to the start of the first race at the benefit trotting meeting at Addington to-day, heavy snow began to fall. The stewards met and decided to postpone the meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday.
