The Duke of Gloucester (the King’s third son) is engaged to Lady Alice Scott, daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Bhicoleuch.

The Duke obtained special leave from his regiment to seek the King’s consent to his engagement to Lady Alice. Lady Alice is shorter than the Duke. ( She is a brilliant conversationalist and has spent much time in Kenya, painting water colours, which were exhibited in the 'London Gallery last month. The Duke of Gloucester has long been a friend of tho Duke of Buccleuch, who sits in the House of Lords as the Earl of Doncaster and who has a priceless art collection, portion of ■which was destroyed by five in 1929.

The Duke of Buccleuch is. the seventh holder of the title, which dates from 1663. The Duchess is the second daughter of the fourth Earl of Richmond.
