THE WEATHER
COLD SOUTHERLY WIND. The wind continued to blow steadily from the south to-day, and conditions were cold, with the sun shining in a cloudy sky. A frost of eight degi’ees was recorded this morning, ■ and the tempei'ature remained low all day. The barometric pressure this morning xvas 29.39 inches,, and exti'emes of shade tempei’ature yesterday and last night xvere 47.2 degrees and 30.3 degrees, a big variation from previous figures this week. One point of rain was recoi'ded last evening, xx-hen a light shoxver fell in Ashburton.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference; A‘‘depression still covers Nexv Zealand and extends eastxvards, the piessni'e being lowest south of Chatham Island. An anti-cyclone of slight intensity lies over the western Tasman Sea The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —
Sti'ong south-westerly winds of gale foi'ce in places. Weather cold and changeable with passing shoxvers and seme coastal hail shoxvers. Seas rough.
