LYNDHURST. The Lyndhurst Old Girls’ Basketball Club held the annual dance in the Lyndhurst Hall. The lucky spot waltz was won by Mr and Mrs W. Dolan (Methven), and the Monte Carlo waltz by Miss Fleming and Mr G. Bishop. Cook’s orchestra played the music, with extras by Mr K. Cook, Mr J. Cretnev and Mr B. Gudsell. Mr A. C. Gadd was master of ceremonies. MAYFIELD. The monthly meeting of tlie Mayfield branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s rooms last evening. Mr G. Johnston presided over a large attendance. It was decided to obtain from the Department of Agriculture an analysis of different brands of lime. The‘secretary was instructed to communicate with the County Council with a view of getting the water-races turned on for a day or two in view of the drying conditions. A remit was carried that the electoral committee for the election of the Meat Board be abolished, and that the board be elected by direct vote of the farmers on the ward system. A roll-call on “Handy hints on the farm” proved very interesting. Mr G. Johnston gave an instructive and interesting demonstration- on “Corriedales.” He outlined the history of the breed in New Zealand, and gave a practical demonstration on three sheep he had brought for the purpose. He also spoke on general sheep-breeding and sheep-farming. Mr -Johnston was acr corded a hearty vote of thanks. Supper was then handed round.
