THEFTS OF STOCK
PREVALENCE IN CANTERBURY.
FARMERS EXPRESS CONCERN
A complaint that thefts of stock and produce are attaining serious proportions in the province, was made at the monthly meeting of the executive committee of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union (North Canterbury district) yesterday by Mr H. G. Parish, of Oxford. So prevalent were the thefts, said Mr Parish, that it was essential for some effective action being taken by the police. He put forward several suggestions designed to check the movements of lorries on country roads at night, but the committee decided to set up a sub-committee to get in touch with farmers to find out the extent of the thefts, and to approach the police so that a plan of action might be devised.
