THE ASHBURTON FESTIVAL.

AWARDS FOR SECOND DAY.

LARGE CLASSED THIS MORNING

Several large classes of juvenile performers were heard this morning at the second day session of the Ashburton Competitions Society’s eleventh annual festival which is being held in the Majestic Theatre, with portions of the day sessions being held in the Church of Christ Social Hall. Sixty-six competitors, all juveniles, appeared in five classes this morning.

Interest is being maintained and there were good attendances at the theatre this morning and again this afternoon. There will be 14 classes for decision at the session this evening. The first section of the piano championship for the Tucker Trophy will bo held at the theatre to-morrow afternoon. This is the test piece “Sonata in B Minor” (Liszt). Results up to the time the “Guardian” went to press were as follow, competitors being resident in Ashburton unless otherwise .stated: — Instrumental Section. PIANO SOLO, 10 and under 12. “A Ceftie Song,” (D-unhill) and “Rondo” (Andre). Recalls —Misses June Frandsen (Christchurch), Patricia Cullen, and Maureen Black. Very highly commended —Misses Eileen Cross (Lowcliffe), Theckli Cullen and Elizabeth Watt. Higlily commended —Miss Noeline Plank (Dunedin). Also competed—Masters James DenIcy, Keith Dickson, Ted Hooper (Rakaia), Frank Porter and Miss Muriei E. Amos.

PIANO SOLO, 14 and under 17. “Alt Wien” Godowsky (Schirmer).
