ST. JAMES THEATRE. The latest Philo Vance novels to be filmed, “The Dragon Murder Case,” a First National picture, comes to the St. James Theatre to-night and to-morrow night, with Warren William making his debut in the role of Vance. “The Dragon Murder Case” is one of the most exciting of the lot. Warren William is ideally suited to the role of Philo Vance, and Eugene Pallette is once more Sergeant Heath. Margaret Lindsay, Lyle Talbot, Dorothy Tree, Robert Barrat, Helen Lowell and Robert McWade are others in the cast*. The plot hinges upon tiie strange disappearance of a young man who dives into a pool and never conies up. How Philo Vance solves the mystery is the basis of the exciting story, replete with thrills and chills.

SCOTTISH SOCIETY’S DANCE.

The accommodation at the Ashburton County Scottish Society’s dance on Saturday evening was not sufficient to cope with the large number of patrons desirous of attending. The evening was greatlyi enjoyed, music for the dancing being supplied by Dabourn’s orchestra. Extras were played bv Mrs T. McGregor and Messrs G. Chilton and G. A. Dolphin. Miss J. Harvey and Mr JKing won the Monte Carlo. Messrs J. Turnbull and T. McGregor were M.C.’s.

TECHNICAL O.P.A. DANCE Another enjoyable dance held under the auspices of the Ashburton Technical High School Old Pupils’ Association was attended by a fairly large gathering of old pupils and their partners on Saturday. Rythm Rascals supplied the music, and novelty dances were Avon by Miss M. Lloyd and Mr Lister, and Miss Gr. BairsboAV and Mr E. Johnstone. Messrs J. Connell and E. Stigley were M.C.’s.
