INFANTILE PARALYSIS

THE NEW AMERICAN SERUM. (Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, July .31. Referring to a New York cablegram concerning serum used for inoculation against infantile paralysis. Professor D’ath said that the report which referred to a method of inoculation, in epidemic areas, of those children not already affected. Another serum had been used in New Zealand for many years in the treatment of patients who had already developed the disease, in order to prevent possible serious paralytic results. The serum was available at the four base hospitals’ laboratories, where it was prepared. The serum successfully tried in North Carolina was used for the inoculation of children who had not contracted the disease. No supplies were yet available in New Zealand.
