MOTOR FATALITY

DAMAGES AWARDED BY JURY

(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, July 30.

By a three-fourths majority, a jury in the Supreme Court to-night awarded £225 damages in a case arising out of a fatal accident near Paraparanmu in March. The action was brought by William Seddon, an estate agent at Levin, whose 18-year-old son was killed when a motor-cycle on which he was pillion-riding collided with a motorcar. The driver of the car, Frank McMorran, and the driver of the motorcycle, Clifford Henry Leander Hayes were cited as defendants. At the conclusion of the case for the plaintiff, counsel for Hayes moved for a nonsuit, which was granted. Counsel for McMorran also applied for a nonsuit, and also moved for judgment for the defendant or for a new trial as an alternative. The Chief Justice (the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers) adjourned the action sine die.
