THE ASHBURTON CLUB.

ANNUAL PRESENTATION OF

PRIZES..

The annual smoke concert and presentation of prizes of the. Ashburton Motor-Cycle Club was held last evening, Mr S. Preddy presiding. There was a good attendance, and various members contributed items, a very pleasant evening being spent. The first toast was to the King, proposed by the president (Mr S. Preddy), followed by the toast to* the patron of the club (Mr H. Brown, of Seaview). After an item by Mr R. Amos, Mr G. T. Clarke proposed the toast of the president (Mr S. Preddy). He stated that during the last year, under the leadership of Mr Preddy, the club had had the most successful season for many years. “The Officers of the Club” was proposed by Mr R. Chambers, and Mr W. J. (DMley replied. Mr J. R. Leask (vice-president) then presented the prizes. The chief trophies were won by the following: — Annual grass hill climb championship cup, T. H. Earley; annual road hill climb championship cup, E. J. Smith ; Preddy Cup, S. AVatson; Speedwell Cup, S. Watson; hurly-burly special prize, R. Anthony. These trophies are for annual competition, the winners holding them for one year. _ . Other members to gain prizes were R. Chambers, who had no less than feeven trophies, R. Dunn, T. S. AVliite and K. Knox.

After supper the toast of “The prizewinners” was proposed by Mr Preddy. Messrs S. AVatson and E. Smith replied. Proposing the toast of the competitors in the club events who had not won trophiesj Mr Clarke stated that these were as good sports as the winners, as’they competed just for the fun of the game, and that without them there would he no competition. Mr R,. Amos replied. Mr J. R. Leask proposed the toast of “Absent Members.” This toast was honoured in silence as a mark of respect to those old members who did not return from the Great War.
