Realising that war or peace may depend upon the decision of the League of Nations Council, but not yet willing to believe that Signor Mussolini will proceed to extreme measures until every expedient is exhausted, the world is anxiously awaiting the outcome of the ' meeting of the Council tomorrow. This meeting is regarded as the most critical test of the League since the Japanese and German crises.

A more hopeful feeling prevails at Geneva itself, based on the belief that a formula will be found to avert hostilities.

THE BRITISH DELEGATION.

LONDON, July 29

The meeting of the League of Nations Council, the business of which will be to consider what action is possible to prevent war between Italy and Abyssinia, has been fixed for Wednesday. Mr R. A. Eden will head the British delegation, andi M.
