THEFT OF LIQUOR
A SALESMAN SENTENCED. t (Pei 1 Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, July 29. John George Rutherford, who pleaded guilty to the theft of liquor, the property of Hughes and Cossar, Auckland, by whom he was employed as a salesman on commission, was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment with hard labour, notwithstanding his counsel’s plea for probation, with a promise that restitution would be made from money to be made available for the accused, practically as a gift by a friend. His Honor said it was* not sufficient that the money should be paid back by another.
