WRESTLING.
UNUSUAL END TO BOUT.
DOUBLE KNOCK-OUT. AUCKLAND, July 29. In the fifth round of a professional heavy-weight wrestling contest, Glen Wade (America) and ‘-‘Lofty” Blomfield ((New Zealand) cleared the top rope of the ring locked in each other’s arms, rolled across the staging and dropped about four feet to the floor of the hall to knock themselves out. The referee immediately called for the gong, gave the wrestlers a few Seconds’ respite, and then commenced a count of 20. As both obviously were too dazed to continue, the referee at the end of the count awarded a fall to each. • Another rest of two minutes was allowed the wrestlers, after which the gong for the sixth round was rung, and the referee commenced a fresh count of 20. Wade had been lifted to the side of the staging in the meantime, but still lay inert, while Blomfield, exhorted by a large section of the crowd, made a valiant attempt to clamber back on to the staging, but finally sagged against the side. The second count of 20 being completed, the referee indicated that his decision was a draw. It was some moments before the wrestlers could be assisted to their dressing rooms. Up to this stage no falls had been registered, the contest providing a clean, attractive exhibition. McCREADY BEATS HOPKINS. WELLINGTON, July 29. With surprising suddenness, the Earl McCready-George Hopkins’ wrestling bout to-night came to an end 58 seconds after the opening of the last round. For seven rounds Hopkins, using extraordinary strength, was far ahead on points, but his winning margin was suddenly wiped nut- when McC ready s painful roll in splits forced Hopkins to submit.
