empire amateur title. ENGLAND WINS. H. F. E. Coles, the Cardiff hank clerk and English amateur champion, retained the Empire Amateur Billiards Championship for England at tmrouglies Hall, London, recently. He was undefeated throughout the series, obtaining four victories. Scotland (J. McGhie) was second. Coles, who has set up several new figures during this chanipionship, put yet another record to his credit, foi iiis aggregate of 4155 for the match exceeded tlie previous best by Sydney Lee by 547 points. Coles also equalled the achievements of Lee in 1933 and J. Earlam in 1926 by’ securing both the English and the Empire titles. Coles had all the better of the play against Deb in the tenth and final heat, scoring 935 points to 472 in the first session and 1056 points to 385 in the final session. The principal breaks of the day were :—Coles, 117, 125, 130, 138, 123, 215, 236. 93; Deb, 87. Result: Coles ... ... 4155 Deb 1562 Final Table.
