UNDER THE ICE

SIR H. WILKINS’S PLANS. (United Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, July 24. Sir Hubert Wilkins arrived from Germany on his way to South America, where he will join the Ellsworth Antarctic Expedition. He said he planned to attempt submarine exploration of the North Polar seas in 1937. He had called for plans from four builders for a submarine, 100 feet long and of 20ft. beam, to cost' 100,000 dollars. He said ~the equipment might cost another 100,000 dollars, although he still had much equipment left from the Nautilus. He hoped the vessel would be ready for experimental cruises, probably in Lake Erie, in the winter of 1936-37. He hoped to start Jor the North Pole in the spring of 1937.
