TRANSIT UNDER TREATY RIGHTS
(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received! This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, July 25.
The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs (Sir Samuel Hoare), referring in the House of Commons to the supply of arms to Italy and Abyssinia, said that the transit of arms destined for the Government of Ethiopia across British territory, or British-protected territory adjacent to Ethiopia, would be permitted in accordance with Article 9of the Treaty of 1930. The French Government would interpret in the same manner its obligations as to the issue of export licenses. His Majesty’s Government was doing its best to make possible a peaceful outcome to the present unhappy dispute. It would not wish to do anything that might prejudice the situation • and therefore for the present it would not issue licenses for the export of arms from Britain, neither to Italy or to Abyssinia.—British Official Wireless.
