MAJOR SANDFORD
RESIGNS FROM SCOUT POST. LONG SERVICE TO AIOVEAIENT. (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYAIOUTH, This Day. Believed to be the oldest living Scout in the world, Alajo,r F. W. Sandford, of New Plymouth, has resigned from the position of Dominion Headquarters Commissioner for Scout training. The New Zealand Boy Scout movement began in 1908, and Alajor Sandford was first associated with it in 1909. Tie is now 83 years of age. The Dominion Executive of the Scout Association has written to Alajor Sandford expressing regret that advancing years have caused him to decide to resign. Alajor Sandford was an instructor in woodwork at technical classes held in Ashburton nearly 30 years ago, and was interested in the commencement of the Scout Aloveinent in Canterbury, and Ashburton in particular. The Ashburton Troop was formed early in 1909, Air S. G. Macfarlane being scoutmaster.
