MEN’S SUB-ASSOCIATION

THE JUNIOR COMPETITION

The president (Mr 15. M. Gabites) occupied tlie chair at last evening s meeting of the management committee of the Mid-Canterbury Men’s Hockey Sub-association. An invitation was accepted from tne South Canterbury Association to send two teams to play at limaru on August 31. . • jThe Canterbury Hockey Association wrote inviting three teams to play m Christchurch on August 17. It was decided to inform the Canterbury Association that this date was already under offer to the Geialdine Association. The Methven Women’s Hockey Club applied for permission to include men s sides in its annual six and five-a-side competition, and this was granted. The Ashburton Women’s Hockey Association agreed to play one of its matches as a curtain-raiser to the Geraldine match on August 17. Messrs S. M. Cassidy and L». Armstrong were appointed; to represent the Sub-association at a conference with the Women’s Association for the purpose of arranging to co-operate in matches to be played on Saturday and on August 17. With a view to getting the junior

competition in better running order, the secretary was requested to take the names and addresses of any players who would be willing to play in the junior grade. If sufficient names were handed in they will be put together in teams according to the districts in which they live, and it is hoped in this way to build up a strong junior section.

SENIOR MEN’S MATCH.

THAMES, July 22. Tho Indian hockey team beat Thames-Hauraki this afternoon by 10 goals to nil. There was a large attendance in spite of Very wintry conditions. The ground was heavy, as the result of a downpour during the week-end; but the Indians’ remarkable control under adverse conditions was a revelation. India led at halftime by seven goals, and in the second half JDhyan Chand completed his hundredth goal of the tour. The scorers were Shahabuddin (5), Chand (2), Wells (2), Davidson (1).
