LORRY-DRIVER FINED
NO STOP, NO REPORT. (Per Press Association.) HAMILTON, July 22. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, John. Henry Mahood was fined £5 on each of two charges of' failing to report an accident and failing to stop. The defendant pleaded guilty. According to the police, the defendant was driving a truck between Cambridge and Hamilton, when he knocked down Ernest Tapp, -who was walking on the road, causing severe injuries and driving on. His conduct was described as extremely callous. Counsel for .the defence Laid, that Mahood had three young men as companions, all of whom were under the influence of liquor. Mahood himself was sober, but he feared that if he stopped he might be arrested for intoxication in charge of a vehicle. A further charge of negligent driving, causing bodily harm to Ernest Tapp, was preferred against Mahood. The case was not finished to-day.
