ENTERTAINMENTS.
MAJESTIC THEATRE. Heart appeal that surges from the screen to stir a depth of feeling and sympathetic emotion are offered in “Have a Heart,” starring vehicle for vivid Jean Parker, showing at theMajestic Theatre to-night and to-mor-row night. Simplicity of the story, which deals with the love between a little doll maker who is a cripple and an energetic young man selling “Have a Heart” ice cream, reaches new heights of hire screen entertainment. Jean Parker is shown as a healthy, active girl giving, dancing instructions to children. An accident makes it necessary for her to wear a foot brace while she tries to earn a living making dolls. In her tragic circumstances there are two redeeming features—her girl friend, Joan, and her “mut” dog, Mopsy—and when Jimmie Flaherty drives around the corner on. liis ice cream waggon one sweltering afternoon lie becomes an all important necessity for her happiness.
ANNIVERSARY CONCERT. The fifty-first anniversary of the Ashburton Salvation Army Corps was concluded with a concert last evening, when there was a good attendance. Brigadier J. Smith, of Wellington, presided, and the following programme was presented:—March, “Army of Immanuel)” band; pianoforte solo, “Festival March,” Y.P.S.M. H. W. Hayward; ' cornet solo, “Facilita,” Bandsman L. Bauglien; vocal solo, Mr H. Silverwood; mandolin solo, “Medley,” Mrs P. Frew; instrumental quartette, “Battle Eve,” trombone section; vocal selection, “The World for God,” songsters; xylophone solo, “The Middy,” Y.P.S.M. H. W. Hayward; vocal duet, Messrs 11. S. Gardner and H. Silverwood; pianoforte solo, “Blaze Away,” Y.P.S.M. Hayward; trombone duet, Bandsmen A. and E. Beach; cornet solo, “Zelda,” Bandsman L. Baughen; double quartette, “A Song of Cheer,” male voice party; selection, “Great and Glorious,” band; vocal solo, Mr Gardner; instrumental quartette, “Entreaty,” bandsmen; vocal selection, “Old Wells,” songsters; xylophone solo, “Passing Shadows,” Y.P.S.M. Hayward; march, “Triumph of Faith,” band. Mrs H. J. Chapman played the accompaniments. Captain N. E. Bricknell thanked the Brigadier for his visit for the celebrations, and a pastry supper was served at the conclusion.
