BOXING.

O’BRIEN BEATS PEARCE. DUNEDIN, July 15. In a professional boxing contest for the professional middle-weight boxing championship of New Zealand, held here this evening, Maurice O’Brien (Dunedin), list slb, beat Billy Pearce (Wellington), list 31jlb, by a knock-cut in the tenth round. It was a drab, uninteresting bout, neither man showing anything like championship form. Pearce did not appear to be taking things at all seriously, and was content for the greater part of the contest to smother up, so that, even had O’Brien not won by a knock-out, he must have taken the decision on points.

JARVIS OUTPOINTS STOCK. HASTINGS, July 15. In a professional light-weight boxing contest, Jack Jarvis (Eltham), 9st 21b, defeated A 1 Stock (Napier), 9st 91b, on points in a 10-round contest. The fight was bright and interesting, working up to three exciting rounds at the finish. Jarvis was the more clever boxer, his blows being cleaner and his defence and footwork better, giving the more forceful Stock no opportunity to come to close quarters. TWO BOUTS IN SYDNEYSYDNEY, July 15. At the Stadium to-night two bouts of 15 rounds were staged. Dick Humphries, of Australia (lOst 51b) knocked out Johnny Foster, of Canada (lOst 61b), in the tenth round. The American, Willard Brown (lOst 101 b), outpointed Jimmy Purcell (lOst 41b).
