ENTERTAINMENTS.

MAJESTIC THEATRE. Shirley Temple certainly is entitled to take a bow for her performance in "Baby, Take a Bow," which will have its last screening at the Majestic Theatre to-night. The work of tins five-year-old girl is really astonishing. She'possesses the grace and intelligence of a. grown person and a personality that will carry her far. The picture is a comedy-drama centreing around Shirley Temple and her young parents. Its theme is James Dunn s struggle for happiness in spite of the handicap of a prison record. Claire Trevor is the young wife who believes in him. Little Shirley is their adorable baby daughter who lends' merriment to the action and turns a trick in the nick of time that makes her the heroine of the drama. There are excellent supporting filmsBAND'S EUCHRE TOURNEY. There was an attendance of about 50 at the first of a series of weekly euchre tournaments held by the Ashburton Silver Band in the bandroom on Saturday evening, and the financial result was satisfactory. Prizes were won by Mrs J. Collett and Mr J. Young. SCOTTISH SOCIETY'S DANCE. There was a oarticularly large attendance at the fortnightly dance held by the Ashburton County Scottish Society on Saturday evening. Music was supplied by Dabourn's orchestra, and Mrs T. McGregor and Messrs G. Chilton and G. A. Dolphin played extras. The Monte Carlo was won by Miss E. Turnbull and Mr J. Gowans. Messrs T. McGregor and J. Turnbull were M.C. s.
