The Duke of Gloucester's hrief visit to Northern Ireland concluded to-day. His Royal Highness received the freedom of the City of Londonderry at a civic function, and later visited the Cathedral. A car-load of nine police, with loaded rifles, acrossj their knees, followed the Duke of Gloucester when he motored through the mountain and bogland villages from Belfast to Londondewy. Police and special constables, armed with rifles with bayonets fixed, stood at intervals along the 100-mile route, which passed within half a mile of the Free (State border. A fire in the Chapter House at Londonderry Cathedral broke out while the Duke of Gloucester was en route to the Cathedral.. The fire brigade raced through the crowds of spectators who were waiting to greet the Duke. The firemen rushed in and rescued valuable relics. The fire was still burning, but was under control when the Duke arrived. - Patrick Donaghey, a veteran of the South African and Great Wars, aged 60, who was taking part in the, parade of the British Legion, collapsed and died immediately after the inspection by the Duke.
