EMBARGO ON STOCK
SOUTH CANTERBURY VIEWS.
GOVERNMENT'S RESPONSIBILITY
(Per Press Association.) TIMARU, This Day.
The committee of the South Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association yesterday discussed the proposal to lift the embargo on live-stock from England, and after a full discussion it decided that the association was opposed to the relaxation of any restrictions against the entry of foot-and-mouth disease, but was of opinion that in a technical question of this sort it must leave the entire responsibility of lifting the embargo in the hands of the Veterinary Department. REMOVAL FAVOURED. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 10. The North Taranaki Executive of the Farmers' Union to-day passed a resolution in favour of lifting the embargo on the importation of livestock, withholding its approval, however, until an assurance is given by the Government that machinery exists for coping with an outbreak of disease should such
occur.
