A SWIMMING BATH.
FUNDS FOR ALLENTON SCHOOL. ARRANGEMENTS FOR A CARNIVAL. With the object of raising funds for the construction of a swimming bath in the Allentoii schoolgrounds, It was decided at a meeting of householders last evening to conduct a carnival and queen contest on August 23 and 24. The chairman (Mr K. C. Bathurst) said that the cost of a swimming bath would be between £4OO and £SOO, and it was expected that at least £2OO would be raised as a result of the carnival. It was proposed toi us© water from the raee on Winter's Road. It would bo filtered before entering the bath, and would be kept fresh by flowing in continuously at one end and out at the other.
The following stallholders were appointed in connection with the carnival : Sweets —Mrs E. S. Chambers and teaching staff.
Refreshments —Mesdames J.. Stevenson, D. Horsburgh, P. Noble, Eaden and Plunkett. Cake—Mesdames' D- H. Moore and H. G. Ferrier. Work—Mrs Alan Walker. Produce —Mesdames E. C. Bathurst and W. James and Mr G. Knox.
Jumble—Mesdames H. Rollinson, J. Gibson and R. Hjighes. Side-shows—Messrs W. James, C. H. F. Maynard, I?. H. Moore, H. Rollinson, J. McElhinney, R. Hughes, H. G. Ferrier D. Horsburgh, J. Boothroyd, sen., R. M'irsden, R. Plunkett, J. H. Stevens and J. Gibson.
In connection with the queen carnival, it was decided to have two candidates, one representing the western side and one the eastern, with Allen's Road as the boundary.
Miss Josie McElhinney was elected the eastern candidate and Miss Olga Bathurst the -western queen. • It was decided to open a subscription list in connection with the swimming bath fund.
