After having been imprisoned for 3| days a miner, W. Anderson, and two natives were found alive in the 15th level of the New Machavie gold mine, 15 miles from Potchefstroom. A rescue party has been working feverishly to reach two white miners and 40 natives who were trapped when old workings were holed and water suddenly rushed through, overtaking the workers. It is believed that three of the victims could havo escaped but that they returned in an effort to rescue the natives. The men were found in a box hole which was below the water level, hut imprisoned air had kept back the flood and had enabled the men to breathe. The rescue party subsequently found the other Europeans and several natives dead. There is no hope now for the rest.
