THE MEN’S COMPETITION. SENIOR MATCHES COMMENCE. The Mid-Canterbury Men’s Hockey Sub-Association’s senior grade competition was begun on Saturday in showery weather. „ . , St. Andrew’s defeated St. Stephen s, who played two men short, by one goal to nil, the goal being shot by K. In the match Ashburton v. Baring Square, the last-mentioned team was leading 1-0 at half-time, when the game had to be abandoned, because or the condition of the ground Messrs W. R. Thomas, S. W. Gower, G. Kelly, and E. M. Gabites were the referees.
WOMEN’S FRIENDLY MATCH. HINDS DEFEATS TIN WALD. A friendly match between teams representing the Hinds and Tinwald Women’s Hockey Clubs was played at Tinwald on Saturday afternoon, Hinds winning by 5 goals to 2. • Goals for Hinds were obtained by Misses J. Davidson (2), Musson (2) and Donaldson (1), while Misses F. Gudsell and I. Haack shot goals for Tinwald. Miss H. Henderson was the referee.
