(From Our Own Correspondent), METHVEN. i:v;:.:-:; !■! N-.V ' ! • A well-attended meeting of the Methven Women's 'lnstitute was held in the Anglican Hall, when Mrs R. F. Smith (group convener) occupied the chair. Representatives from Lyndhurst and Highbank were present. The hall was tastefully decorated with bowls of autumn flowers and shrubbery. Mrs Smith extended a hearty welcome to all, especially to Mrs Kelso (Dominion organiser) and Mrs F,. Curtis (president of: the • Mid-Canterbury Federation) [ who were each the recipient of bouquets, of roses. A vote of condolence was passed to Mrs E. S. Vaughan in her bereavement. A most interesting address was delivered by Mrs Kelso 6,n "Drama," and at the close she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Curtis on her election as president of the Mid-Canterbury Federation. Items were contributed by Mesdames R. F. Smith (pianoforte solo), E. Mangin (songs), and L. L. Richards, J. F. Stone and J. Temple. The members of the committee acted as hostesses.

RUAPUNA There was a good attendance at the memorial gates and at the Public Hall at Ruapuna on Anzac Day, when a combined memorial service was held. After wreaths bad been hung on the gates the people assembled in the hall. The service was opened with the National Anthem. Miss L. Boyd was organist. The Rev. Trevor Williams (Anglican) said.the prayer and read the lesson. The Rev. A. D. Kirddand (Presbyterian) delivered the address. A. collection was taken up in aid of the Returned Soldiers' Association. STAVELEY. -A united Anzac Day •service was held in -the Staveley Public Hall on Thursday evening. The' service was conducted by the Rev. Trevor William® (Anglican) j and the address was given by the Rev. A. A. C. Lion (Presbyterian), at whose request Mr L. G. McFarlane read the names on the roll of honour.

v...» PENDARVES. The annual meeting of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Union was held in the Pendarves Hall'.. Mrs James Lambie introduced Mrs D. B. Ashford (Rakaia), who presided. The treasurer (Miss Eva Doig) reported a credit balance of £2 3s 9d. Officers were elected as follow: —President, Mrs D. 8.-Ashford; vice-president, Mrs James Lambie; secretary and treasurer, Miss Freda Ironside; missionbox secretary, Mrs Austin Shaw; harvest field secretary, Mrs A. P. Bruce. A talk was delivered by the president. It was arranged to hold a concert and travel talk in May, in aid of the mission and Sunday school funds. Musical items were given by Miss Freda Ironside and Miss Lorna Lambie. The hostesses were Mrs James Lambie and Miss Eva Doig. / ■ WESTERFIELD. ,

The annual meeting of the Westerfield branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Rifle Club's roams There was a good attendance. Mrs H. Dillon occupied the chair. The president reported another year of progress. All the social functions held in connection with the branch had been most successful. The balance-sheet showed a substantial credit balance. Miss M. Lowry was first for most- points in competitions during the year. The second prize was won by Mrs W. J. Lowry. The following officers were elected*: —President, Mrs D. S. Shaw; vice-presidents, Mesdames T. Allen, H. Dillon and G. Watson ; secretary, Mrs R<. J. Biddick; treasurer, Mrs A. Lamb; delegates to executive, Mesdames D. Shaw, J. Barton and H. Votes of thanks were passed to Mrs T. Allen (retiring president) and to Mrs D. Shaw (secretary). The hostesses were Miss Sheate, Mrs L. Thomas and Miss L. Stone.

,';•:*: H>" HINDS, An Anzac memorial service was conducted in the Hinds Hall on Thursday morning. In spite of the unsettled weather there was a fair attendance. The Scripture reading was given by the Rev. E. Hamilton. Tli© Rev. B. Taylor and Mr B. Withell also took part in the service, and Archdeacon Petrie gave an address. Mrs E. W. N. Watson was pianiste. The Hinds Women's Institute held a very enjoyable> dance in the hall last evening. Music was supplied by Morris's Band, and extras were played by Mr B. Claughton. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss P.. Donaldson and .partner,.and a lucky spot waltz by Miss F. Donaldson and Mr M. Rickard.

Mr B. Claughton was master of ceremonies. The weather yesterday was warm, with a north-westerly breeze, but toward evening the wind turned to southerly. Early this morning there was a light rain. WiNCHMORE The Winchmor© Tennis Club held its closing day on Easter Monday\- The president (Mr J. O'Grady) Resented prizes, and a handicap tournament was played. The winners were Miss E. King and Mr G. Wright.
