METHVEN TROTS. POSTPONED BECAUSE OF RAIN MAY BE HELD ON MAY 6. Heavy rain through the greater part of last night, with a promise of a most unpleasant day ahead, caused the postponement of the Methven Trotting Club's special meeting which was to have been held on the Mount Harding racecourse to-day. The track was rendered soft and unsafe by the rain, and the club early this morning decided; upon the abandonment of the meeting to-day.
It is understood that the club is making an endeavour to have the meeting held over till Monday, May 6, the King's jubilee day, which will be a holiday. The rainfall to 9 a.m. was 30 points, and at noon heavy rain was still falling. The committee held several meetings during the morning, and got into communication 'with the president of the Trotting Conference (Mr H. F. Nicoll), who, however, could not take the responsibility of granting a permit for May 6. If the Conference grants this date, the original nominations and acceptances will stand. In the meantime the club is postponing the meeting from "day to day."
