CHRISTCHURCH RAM FAIR. KEEN DEMAND FOR CORRIEDALES (Special to the “ Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A total of 3995 rams compared with 4328 last year, were penned at the annual ram fair conducted by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association at Christchurch yesterday. The sheep came forward in remarkably good order considering the season passed through, and with the elimination of the inferiorities the class, as a whole compared with that forward at the best of recent fairs. The feature of the sale was the particularly keen demand for Corriedales, this providing something in the nature of an agreeable surprise to vendors, as some reaction to the decline in the fine wool market was anticipated. There is a gradually extending demand for the breed, and several pens were purchased for the North Island. Following are the top prices realised for the various breeds: Corriedales 151 gns; half-breds, Signs; Seuthdowns, 9gns; English Leicester llfgns: Border Leicester, sgns; Romney Marsh, 7gns; Shropshires 6gns.
