TIMARU, March 14. Fully 1500 people, probably a record for New Zealand, were present at the Showgrounds to-day, when a sale or Mr Andrew Grant’s Allandale Glydeseiales was held. Every part of the Dominion was strongly represented. Ihe catalgoue comprised thirty-thrge head, and tnese realised a total of 3736 and a half guineas, the overhead average exceeding 113gns. Competition for six fillies was exceptionally keen, these averaging 181 gs with a top price of 250 gs. Five stallions averaged 233g5, six two-year-olds 995 gs and six yearling colts 725g5. The sale was an outstanding success. The various lots -were distributed widely throughout the Dominion. The top price of the 9ale was 300 gs, paid by a Westland breedeiy Mr J. Condon, for the five-vear-old Lady’s Desire. All the fillies "will remain in the South Island. Ashburton purchasers were as follow: Stallions—Allandale (Mr J. Bell, Lismore), llOgns. The fortnighlty stock sale was held in the Methven Saleyards yesterday, when there was a good attendance of farmers. There was a good yarding or both fat and store sheep, principally lambs. The quality of tats was, y on the whole, good, but there was a decided easing tendency in the prices, and several lines were not sold at auction. Top price was 20s 7d for 89 lambs. - . The drop in the price of fats had its effect on the lambs in the store section, but taken all round, a satisfactory clearance was effected. There was a large entry of cattle, mostly dairy cows. The third and final wool sale of the season in Auckland will lie held on Friday, March 29. There is no limit to the offering and at the present timcit is difficult to gauge the probable total of the catalogues that will he submitted. Large quantities are actually in store, but growers for the most part are watching the market closely and will delay coming to a decision whether to offer or not until the sale date is nearer. At the corresponding sale last year 15,896 bales were offered and 13,579 were sold.
