COUNTY CENTRES

(From Our Own Correspondents.) ASHTON-WATERTQN. There was a very large attendance at the Ashton-Waterton Worn-en's Institute's harvest home ball held in the Waterton Hall on Thursday. The music was supplied by Mr R. Daybourne's orchestra, and Mr R. Ford played an extra. The lucky spot onestep was won by Mr and Mrs J. Small and the Monte Carlo waltz by Miss M. Stevens and Mr J. Moffat.

HINDS. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Hinds Lodge, M.U.1.0.0.F., was held on Saturday, the N.G. (Bro M. Mclnnes) presiding. Sick pay amounting to £8 8s 4d was passed for payment in favoui 4 of five members. Bros. W. E. Lowe and B. Frampton were appointed delegates to the annual conference in Ashburton on Saturday, March 23. Bro. R. W. Johnston gave a report of the United Friendly Societies' Association's meeting, which he attended as delegate.. Two candidates were proposed and elected for membership. A meeting was held in the Hall on Monday evening to form a branch of the New Zealand Poultry Producers' Federation. Mr Bishop occupied the chair. Mr S. F. Marshall (secretary of the Poultry Board) gave an interesting address on the aims of the Board. The Board had been instrumental in providing that put in cool store be branded as chilled. This would come into force next year. A vote of thanks to Mr Marshall brought the meeting to a close.
