DULL AND THREATENING CONDITIONS. » t Conditions in Ashburton to-day were dull and threatening but no rain fell in the town. There were indications of a shower in the coastal districts. -The temperature was mild. The barometric pressure this morning was 29.84 inches and extremes of shade temperatures yesterday and last night were 69 degrees and 59 degrees.

The Government Meteorologist, a* noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: A depression is centred north of Cape Maria Van Diemen, but has lost intensity. Pressure is high at Chatham Islands and also over south-eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows :• Light to fresh east to northerly winds prevailing. Weather mainly fair to cloudy and warm but some isolated, rain probable. Seas smooth to moderate.
