THE MEAT QUOTA

AUSTRALIA’S OBJECTION. NEW ZEALAND’S ADVANTAGE. RECORD TRADE RAISES AVERAGE (United Press Association —Copyright), (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m ) CANBERRA, This Day. The Acting-Prime Minister (Dr. Earle Page) stated that if the British Government imposed quotas for the second quarter of this year, based on the average for the last three years, it would be disastrous for the Australian meat industry. It would be iinfair to Australia compared with'its effect on New Zealand, because New Zealand’s record export year in the last three years gave the Dominion the benefit on an average basis. Australia hoped to obtain a much more generous quota for the. second quarter if the British Government decided on any form of restriction.
