THE WEATHER.
DULL, BUT MILD TO-DAY. Rain threatened in Ashburton during the night but none fell. Conditions were dull to-day but the temperature became milder as the day advanced. There was a light northerly wind. Reading 29.95 inches at 9 o’clock this morning, the barometer is considerably lower than at the end of last week. The leading on Friday was 30.24 inches and since then the instrument lias fallen steadily. . . , , , Maximum and minimum shade temperatures yesterday and Inst night were 72.4 degrees and 58.5 degrees. TO-DAY’S FORECAST (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, all noon, to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather : General inference: A depression.is centred west of Cape Maria Van Diemen. Pressure is still high at Chatham Islands and has risen rapidly over south-eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: Variable winds but light to moderate easterly prevailing, veering later to south-easterly. Weather cloudy to overcast and later scattered rains like- ’ lv. Seas smooth, to moderate.
