When they were told that no supplies were available an angry demonstration resulted and the place was in a turmoil until the police were summoned and a sergeant arrived. Later a deputation of women waited on the Citizens’ Unemployment Committee, who also stated that it could do nothing in the matter.

; Later, meeting the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) in his room at the Council Chambers the women were promised that a dozen of the most urgent cases would he helped by the Salvation Army to-morrow morning.
