AN £BO,OOO CASE. PROTEST AGAINST "WASTE.'* LONDON, February 11. A judgment delivered on an appeal jhi the House of Lords to-day, included a protest against the license permitted expert witnesses. This, it was stated, resulted in much inadmissable evidence and a waste of time and money. '
The House of Lords, with Lord Justices Russell, Tomlin and MacMillan adjudicating, dismissed, with costs, the -appeal of British Celanese, Limited, from the decisions of the Court of Appeal, and Mr Justice Clauson, in favour of Courtaulds, Limited, regarding alleged l infringements of patents relating to the manufacture of artificial silks.
The case began on November 1, 1932, and altogether occupied 71 days, of which 35 were, spent in the Chancery Court, 17, in the Court of Appeal and 19' in the House of Lords. The estimated cost, was £BO,OOO. Lord Justice Tomlin's judgment protested against'the expert witnesses. The judgment has resulted in a small rise in Courtaulds' shares and a similar fall in Celanese stocks, oh the Stock Exchange.
