PERSONAL.
The Hon. J. A. Hanan, M.L.C., was a passenger for the south on the express train this morning.
Miss E. G. Lawry, of Geraldine, formerly headmistress of the Wakanui school, was a recent caller at New Zealand House in London.
Bishop. Whyte, who attended the commemoration service for the late Archbishop Redwood, in Wellington, passed through Ashburton on the south-bound express train this morning on his return to Dunedin.
Dr. W. R. Ryburn, who has been spending a holiday at Sumner, returned to Ashburton yesterday and left today to make a short tour of the West Coast. He is accompanied by Mrs Ryburn.
With the appointment of Sir George Ernest Schuster, K.C.5.1., K.C.M.G., the London Board 1 of Directors of the Bank of New Zealand now consists of Mr Cecil Lubbock, Earl Jollicoe, Sir James Mills'(at present in Wellington), Mr Robert Mill (formerly manager of the Bank of New Zealand in London), and Sir George Schuster.
A motion of in his illness and satisfaction at his recovery was expressed with Mr S. H. Lill (president of the Ashburton branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union) at this afternoon’s, meeting of the Mid-Can-terbury Provincial Executive of the Union.
