INTOXICATED IN CAR
AN OFFENCE AT METHVEN.
RAMS ANOTHER VEHICLE.
FINE OF £5 INFLICTED. While the'testing of brakes on motorcars was being carried out on the main highway at Methyen by Mr B. N. Johnson (Inspector for the Ashburton County Council) oh Thursday, a motorist, J. MeGrath, of Ashburton, made an excursion to the locality, finding it an expensive one. Proceeding toward Ashburton, his career came to a sudden stop when his car rammed another in the rear while it was undergoing a braking test. Unfortunately for MeGrath, the other motorist was Constable J. Robertson, who found MeGrath to be under the influence of liquor. MeGrath was promptly arz-ested and was charged at Mjethveri yesterday before Messrs W. A. Shemeld and W. C. Battsoh, J.P.'s, with having driven a car while under the influence of liqour. Defendant, who did not appear was fined £5.
