HAIL TWO FEET DEEP.
NORTH AUCKLAND PHENOMENON. (Per Press Association). " AUCKLAND, August 10. A phenomenal fall of hail covered a wide area north of Auckland yesterday afternoon. It was associated with a severe electrical storm, and extended from Warkworth to Leigh. One road had hail lying two feet deep, while the hills in the vicinity were white as if snow had fallen. The occurrence was unprecedented in these districts. The valley of a double-gabled house was completely filled with hail, the weight of which caused the roof to collapse and flood the interior. All traffic on the Matakana : Leigh road was blocked last night, but was resumed to-dav, though several inches of hail' still covered the road. . This morning in one bay, blocks or ice caused by hail washed from the surrounding, hillsides were floating covering a. fairly large area. Twenty telephone lines .were thrown out of order by the lightning fusing cable boxes.
