CROWN LANDS.

COMMISSIONEH APPOINTED. THE CANTERBURY DISTRICT, (Per Press Association). "WELLINGTON, August 10. Mr F. J. Quinn,- Commissioner of Crown Lands at Napier, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands at Christchurch. Mi" F. Burnley, chief surveyor at Napier, has been appointed Commissioner of Crown Lands at Napier. Mr C. G. S. Ellis, chief draughtsman at Christchurch, has been appointed deputy-chief surveyor at' Christchurch. Mr P. W. G. Barlow, chief draughtsman and land transfer draughtsman at Napier, has been appointed chief surveyor at Napier. Mr F. J. Quinn started in the Lands and Survey Department in Dun- • edin in 190,6, and served in that office until th© beginning of 1914, when he went into the accountant's branch of the Lands Office in Wellington. After war service he was accountant in the Wellington office in 1920, and later he was appointed assistani>accountant at the head office of the Department. In 1924 he was appointed an inspector. He became Commissioner of Crown Lands at Napier on August 1, 1931. Mr C. G. jS. Ellis has been chief draughtsman in the department's office in Christchurch since 1929. Before that he was at the Now Plymouth office for three years and originally at head office., Wellington, where he joined the service. Since Mr W. Stewart was appointed Valuer-General, Mr Ellis has been acting as deputy-com-missioner' and deputy-chief surveyor.
