Herr Hitler, following precedent of the inauguration of a president, proclaimed an amnesty for many men and women, who are serving less than six months for criminal and political offences, excluding those imprisoned during the Nazi purge on June 30. The Government has also issued an amnesty for persons guilty of slandering Hitler, nrovided the crime was committed before von Hindenburg's death. The amnesty does not apply to those guilty of treason or attempted murder. What is described as a. generous investigation of suspects now in concentration camps is being conducted with a view to the liberation of less serious offenders.
