MID-CANTERBURY COMMITTEE.

MR FERRIMAN’S RESIGNATION.

The annual meeting of the MidCanterbury Licensing Committee, held at the Lceston Courthouse yesterday, was attended by Messrs H. A. Young, S.M. (chairman), E. B. Newton, B. McNamara, and S- G. Holmes. A letter was received from Mr F. Z. D. Ferriman, tendering his resignation a.s a member of the committee on account of ill-liealth. The chairman stated that the police reports on the conduct of all the hotels in the district were satisfactory, there having been only one conviction against a licensee during the year, the first for a number of years. Reports regarding the . condition and sanitation of the hotels were also favourable. During the time Mr F’errimari had* been a member of the committee he had given material assistance, an it was hoped that his health would soon be restored.

Applications for the issue of publicans’ licenses were granted as follows : Hororata Hotel, W. H. W. Reddington ; Canterbury Hotel (Methven), Arnold E. Wilson.

Renewals granted were: Railway Hotel (Rakaia), Charles Garrigan; Methven Hotel, E. F. Ward; Southbridge Hotel, W. M. Nidd; Clxertsey Hotel, William Robinson; South Rakaia Hotel, James F. O’Reilly; Railway Hotel (Doyleston), W. C. Beamslep; Dunsandel Hotel, C. H. Hatchard; Leeston Hotel, truestees of the late James McCormick. 1
