CANOE TRIP PLANNED.

THROUGH THE RAKAIA GORGE. (Special to the “ Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. An adventurous trip by canoe throiigh the Ralcaia Gorge is planned foi* the coming week-end by three members of the Canterbury Mountaineering Club, Messrs Evan Wilson, Ernest Rich and Richard Walden. Two' of them—Messrs Walden and Wilsonmade a canoe run through the Waimakariri Gorge last December, and they expect the present attempt to be just as hazardous. The three young men will he in separate canoes, two of the canoes being wooden and the other of wood and canvas. They are decked in at bow and stern, to reduce the danger of becoming waterlogged in broken water. The party proposes to leave Christ- / church early on Saturday afternoon, a. lorry being chartered to take the men and their canoes to the Rakaia. After resting at Lake Heron Station for the first part of Saturday night, they will move on toward the source of the Lake stream at 3 a.m. At daybreak on Sunday the canoes will start down the Lake stream for the Rakaia, It is expected that if conditions are good Lake Coleridge will be reached that evening. The next stage, through the Rakaia Gorge about 10 miles below Coleridge, • will be the most exciting portion oi the voyage. This will he begun as early as possible on Monday morning. .If the plans work' out successfully the Rakaia bridge should be reached on Monday evening.
