GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

SOUTH CANTERBURY MARKETS. (Special, to the “ Guardian.”) TIM All U, This Day. The usual quiet period associated with" the South Canterbury grain, Seed and produce markets in May, is apparent this week. At present the only outlet for milling wheat is through the Wheat Purchase Board, as millers are now fully supplied. Ruling- prices are: Tuscan 3/8, Hunters 3/10 and Velvet, Marquis and Garnet 4/- a bushel f.o.b There is a fair demand for Garton oats, A’s being quoted at 2/11 and B’s 1/8 a bushel .on trucks. Algerians are worth 1/10 a bushel on trucks, and good heavy dark Duns 2/1 a bushel on trucks. There is good inquiry for the latter line. The value of linseed is £ls 10s a ton on trucks. Chevalier barley is quoted at 2s 9d, black 2s 9d, and Cape 2s a bushel on trucks. Chaff is quoted at £2 15s a ton on trucks. There is very little inquiry. Yesterday’s price for potatoes was £2 15s a ton on trucks. Auckland is still well supplied, but there lias been a slightly better demand during the last few days. As soon as the Pukekohe crops are finished in the north, it is anticipated that southern potatoes will be inquired for.

The main inquiry in the seeds department is 1/or brown top. There is very little available, the nominal quotation being Is 9d per lb for dressed seed. Some very good lines of cowgrass are coming to / hand at the nominal quotation of 9d per lb. Better prices, however, have been paid for one or two earlier lines. The market will be' mainly controlled by imported seed, which is being landed at a fairly low price. AUSTRALIAN MARKETS. SYDNEY, May 31. Wheat—At country stations, quoted about 2s Id for both bagged and bulk, equal to 2s 8d and 2s 9d ex trucks in Sydney. Flour—£ll 10s. Bran—£4 ss. Pollard—£s.
