ARAPUNI WORKS.
POWER HOUSE TO BE ENLARGED (Special to the “ Guardian.”) WELLINGTON, May 31. The Minister of Public Works (the Hon. J. Bitchener) said to-day that Cabinet lias approved of liis recommendation to call tenders for two additional tubo generators for the Arapuni hydro-electric station, and also for two banks of transformers to enable the new generators to be accommodated. An extension of the Arapuni powerhouse to its full ultimate size, will be necessary.
Commenting on the decision to install new machinery at Arapuni, Mr F. T. M. Kissell (chief electrical engineer to tlie Public Works Department) said that the pipe lines and head-works were already installed. He estimated it would take about two years to complete the work authorised. The greater part of the time would bo taken up by the delivery of machinery, which would have to he manufactured overseas. Probably 100 men would be engaged on the work.
