Miss Bathie Stuart, a representative of the New Zealand Tourist Department in America, who is visiting New Zealand, was a passenger for the south on the express train this" morning.
The .Wellington Hospital Board last night accepted the resignation of the medical superintendent, Dr. H. Bayldon Ewen, who will enter private practice. Dr. Ewen has been associated with the hospital for 11 years, five as a physician and six as medical superintendent.
After 33 years’ service as a member of the staff at Canterbury University College, the last 20 as the occupier of the Chair of Philosophy, Professor C. F. Salmond retired officially yesterday. A breakdown, in health last year compelled his withdrawal and- since that time he has been on leave. Professor Salmond was first assistant at the Ashburton, High School from 1896 to 1906.,
Mr W. G. F. Pinliham (assistant supervisor of the postal branch of the Chief Post Office, Dunedin) has been re-elected unopposed to represent the officers of the postal branch on the post and telegraph appeal board. Mr G. A. Wilkes, postmaster at St. Andrews, has been elected unopposed as the representative of the officers of the telegraph branch. Mr H. V. Ward, Wellington, is the outgoing telegraph representative.
Mr L. M. Hobbs (captain of the Ashburton Lawn Tennis Club), who will leave shortly for Westport to join the staff of the Technical High School as woodwork instructor, was met by members of the club last evening and presented with a set of hair brushes by Dr. W. R. By burn on their behalf. Mr R. j. Thompson (principal) presented Mr Hobbs with a bookkeeping key on behalf of the staff of the Ashburton Technical High School this afternoon, and C. Bradley (prefect) gave him a volume from the boys of the school.
