LARGER MEMBERSHIP.

CATHOLIC BENEFIT SOCIETY. WELLINGTON, May 30. An increase in the membership was reported at the annual meeting of the New Zealand district of the HibernianAustralasian Catholic Benefit Society to-day. The meeting was presided over by the district president, Bro. P. D. Hoskins, and attended by delegates from all parts of the Dominion. Archbishop O'Shea welcomed the delegates. The balance-sheet of the society showed an increase in the consolidated sick and funeral benefit fund from £71,950 to £76,775. It was decided to transfer £19,500 to the surplus fund for the purpose of paying- a portion of the contributions of members 65 years of age and over who might be in distress. A further sum of £IOOO was put aside to assist members over 60 years of age in distress. This is additional to. the £3OOO already being used to assist unemployment members.
