SHEEPOWNERS' UNION
MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. (Special to the " Guardian.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. That there is no possibility of consideration being given to applications for the revaluation of pastoral licenses under present conditions, and considering the terms under which such runs are held, was stated in a letter, received from the Minister for Lands (the Hon. E. A. Ransom) by the executive of the . Canterbury Sheep Owners' Union at its last meeting. The letter was received, the difficulty of the situation from the Government's point of view being fully 'recognised. The president (Mr E. Hay) and the secretary (Mr W- H. Nicholson) were appointed a sub-committee to confer, with the committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association with the object of reviewing the legislation governing sheep dipping, etc., as provided in the Stock Act. Several letters were received trom runholders throughout Canterbury stressing the necessity for a maintenance of the present conditions governing the importation of stock from countries affected with foot-and-mouth disease. After a full discussion it was unanimously resolved that the letters be received and that the Minister be requested to make no alteration of the law governing the importation of stock under existing conditions. . , , ~ Mr B E H. Tripp reported on the work done by the wool publicity committee, on which he had been appointed the union's representative, Mr Tripp detailed the work done by Ehe committee during the year and expressed the hope that it would prove of some assistance to the tion in its endeavour to promote a ioint scheme for research and publicity with other wool-producing countries in the Empire.
